Bathroom Remodel

Two Bathrooms, One Look

The master bath layout was changed to allow for a large walk in shower, a his-n-hers vanity with linen cabinet and a separate make up vanity with mirror. The spacious walk in shower features three sizes of Capri Ivory tile, set both diagonally and straight. The accent tiles in the niche and around the walls pulls some color into the enclosure. A rain glass wall lets light in but creates a little privacy. In both bathrooms the vanity area is dominated by rectangular forms, from the flat panel Shaker style cabinets to the rectangular undermount sinks, even the square knobs on the cabinet doors. The rounded light fixtures and graceful curved faucet subtly break up the angles. Verde tunas granite countertops in black with green/gold specks coordinate with the black and gold framed mirrors. The hallway bathroom was designed to fit the needs of the owner’s mother when she visits while still attractive for other guests. Once the infrequently-used tub was removed, a generously-sized shower was constructed with a low step-in. The shower head is mounted on a bracket for adjustment up and down and it can also be used as a handheld shower. The shower surround tile is set in a staggered straight pattern with the interior of the wall niche on the diagonal and studded with small accent tiles. A wide band of multicolor glass mosaic tiles provides a pop of color and shine in the otherwise neutral tan color scheme of the shower. Making the most of the limited space, the vanity includes a tall linen cabinet tucked just inside the doorway. Repeating the granite countertop, cabinet finish and mirror as in the master bath creates a cohesive feel throughout the home.

Mission Style

K-Co added a second story and a small ground floor addition to this Mission style inspired home. We also reconfigured the kitchen to make it more efficient in spite of its smaller size. Tucking a wine storage space under the staircase was just one of the ways space was used creatively in the project.

Dream Home Successful Remodel Even with Coastal Commission Requirements

Originally constructed as a single story cottage 1 ½ blocks from the ocean, our clients were a young family with twin boys who envisioned a two-story villa on the lot, with a guest apartment above the existing detached garage. To accommodate the Coastal Commission, K-Co was required to leave 50% of the existing walls in place, making the design more of a challenge than simply starting over. We built the entire second floor and guest apartment just as they had visualized it.

Mid-Century Bungalow gets Fresh Look

All standard remodel projects were met. We added a total of 700 square feet to the home with a 400 square foot second garage. They also had another more unusual item on their wish list: a home brewery and tasting room. We built the additional tasting room/brewery building.
